Corporate Contributions

Charitable contributions to local, 501c(3) organizations is another way that we give back to the communities we serve. We support programs and activities that help to improve the quality of life for Michigan residents. Contribution requests are received year round and reviewed and evaluated monthly.


The majority of our charitable contributions align with the BCBSM social mission and support the following focus areas:

  • Access to care
  • Quality of care
  • Health need (including a focus on physical activity, obesity prevention, prevention of chronic diseases, health education)
  • Health needs in diverse communities and among youth and seniors

Charitable contributions are not normally made for the following:

  • In the name of any past or current employee to nonprofit organizations
  • Alumni associations
  • Individual scholarships or scholarship programs
  • University or college chairs
  • Endowments of any kind
  • Any programs outside of Michigan
  • Organizations devoted exclusively to research projects
  • Veteran and political organizations or sectarian programs for religious purposes
  • Group travel expenses
  • Extracurricular school activities such as sports, band, etc.
  • Community sports leagues; fundraising activities related to individual sponsorships such as walk-a-thons, etc.
  • Capital campaigns

How to request a contribution

To request a contribution, a submission must be made in writing using the BCBSM Corporate Contributions Request form (PDF). You must also submit the requesting organization's IRS 501(c)(3) tax exemption letter.
